Arwen Undómiel is a fictional character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. She is an elf, one of the "High Elves" (the elven race who remained in Middle-earth and did not sail to Valinor), and the daughter of Elrond and Celebrian. She is also the granddaughter of Lúthien, one of the most famous and powerful elves of all time. Arwen is renowned for her unparalleled beauty and grace, and is often described as shining like the stars. She falls in love with Aragorn, a human, and chooses to become mortal rather than sail to the undying lands with her kin, so that she could be with him. Arwen is a significant character in The Lord of the Rings, especially in the later parts of the story, and is a symbol of devotion and sacrifice.
